My Father, My Foundation ❤️
There are moments in life that leave a lasting mark on the heart — moments that shape who we become. One of those moments for me was a Christmas Day I’ll never forget, standing beside the man who first taught me what it means to show up, to provide, and to love your family with all you’ve got: my dad.
He wasn’t perfect. None of us are. But what made him great was his sense of responsibility and love for his family. As a truck driver, he was often on the road for weeks, even months. I remember one December clearly — he had been gone for two months, and finally came home for the holidays. That Christmas felt like paradise. His presence alone brought the joy, warmth, and safety I needed as a child. That memory lives in me to this day.
I’ve learned so much from him — some things to follow, and some things to change. I became like him in many ways. But I also made the conscious decision to break certain generational cycles. That’s the journey of every son who becomes a father: choosing what to carry forward and what to leave behind.
Now that I’m a father, I understand him even more. I make every moment count with my children. Whether I’m around for a day or a month, I strive to be present, to make memories, and to leave a legacy they will carry with pride.
This story — and so many more — are part of what I share in my book, Do Not Let the Fire Go Out. It’s more than a book. It’s a reflection of life, of love, and of the fire we each must keep burning — for ourselves and those who come after us.
I was made to win. So was my father. So are you.
